Gough’s Cave – Cheddar Gorge

The cave was discovered by Richard Cox Gough in 1903 and is part of a complex extending around 2 Km (1.3 miles) under the cliffs.

The oldest complete human skeleton was recovered from the caves shortly after their discovery. ‘Cheddar man’ is believed to date back to around 7150 BC
