The town of Keynsham is about midway between Bristol and Bath, and a good place to stay when exploring both of these interesting cities and the lovely Somerset countryside. There is a lively market every Friday and a number of good pubs, cafés and restaurants.

St John’s Church has a fine Jacobean pulpit and the beautiful seventeenth century tower affords good views over the surrounding countryside. Keynsham lies in a loop of the River Avon and there are delightful riverside walks in the area.

Perhaps the main claim to fame of this little town is its connection with the music of the sixties. Listeners of Radio Luxembourg, in those long ago days, will remember Horace Batchelor of Keynsham, near Bristol, with his advertisements for a patent method of winning the football pools!

The town is also known for its chocolate factory, which perfumes the air of the town. This factory originally manufactured Fry’s chocolate but is now part of the Cadbury group.
